Ravne na Koroškem, Thursday, 8 November 2018 – SIJ Metal Ravne has organized the traditional reception for their new scholarship recipients, students of the Secondary General School Ravne. The company concluded new scholarship contracts with 23 secondary school students and three university students. All students, a total of 84 scholarship recipients, are guaranteed a place at SIJ Metal Ravne.

The SIJ Group’s scholarship program shows that there is a current need for personnel in the technical professions within the group’s companies, and there is a significant shortage of metallurgists. That is why the Secondary General School Ravne began to offer the program for metallurgical technicians in 2016/17 after a 25-year hiatus at the initiative of the SIJ Group, which actively participated in the preparation of the professional standard and the curriculum. Everyone in this year’s third generation of metallurgical technicians, comprising 15 secondary school students, is a recipient of a scholarship at SIJ Metal Ravne.

“In the coming period, many of our co-workers from the generation that saw a mass recruitment take place at this location will soon retire. Considering our emphasis on development, we will need new co-workers from secondary technical schools and universities that offer metallurgical programs, as well as metallurgical technicians, every year. That is why we offer employment to our scholarship recipients here at SIJ Metal Ravne after they successfully complete their schooling,” said Andrej Gradišnik, Managing Director of SIJ Metal Ravne, who presented the company and SIJ Group to the new scholarship recipients at the reception.

Co-workers at SIJ Metal Ravne also participate in the educational process at the Secondary General School Ravne. At the company, the scholarship recipients receive practical training, some even get a summer job and participate in joint projects between educational institutions and our companies, as well as writing theses and diplomas about subjects that are important and interesting to the SIJ Group. In that way they gain a lot of practical knowledge and experience which speeds up and facilitates their integration into the workforce, even during the educational process.

SIJ Metal Ravne has a total of 84 scholarship recipients, of which 67 are enrolled into secondary school programs at the Secondary General School Ravne, and 17 are enrolled into university programs. The largest share, a total of 41 scholarship recipients, are enrolled into the program for metallurgical technicians at the Secondary General School Ravne. Together with the new generation of scholarship recipients, the SIJ Group already collaborates with 148 secondary school students and university students.
